Tot School (Week 6)

Caeden is currently 24 months old.

We didn't get to our first activity until Tuesday, and we started off working on our letter for the week. Our letter this week was "N". I tried to come up with some unique activities that were still appropriate for his age.

As usual, I printed off a letter "N" template from here. I then placed it in a throw away pan with lid, added a few dry pasta noodles, a few drops of orange paint, put the lid back on, and then would hand it to C to shake (kind of like marble painting). I told him to shake it so that the noodles would go back and forth making designs with the paint. I did not take into account that C has been using the throw away pan for his noodle/rice sensory activity. As soon as I handed it to him, he began to cry and started to try and take the lid off. He knew he was supposed to be playing in that pan! I could only get him to shake the pan once or twice...with tears and all. ♥

So then I let him play in the noodles...on the floor...with no towel underneath. Mess.

Last Monday was my Grandpa's 88th Birthday, so C helped me color a birthday card!

We also did letter recognition with our new quilt letter that were made by my brother-in-law's mother, Debbie. She loves to quilt and had a lot of extra scraps left. She added felt on the back so we could use them on a felt board. I'm really excited about these! I got the idea for them from this post at Happy Together.

We had our last Sneak, Peek, and Read this week. This week the activities were about Birds. C did a much better job of participating in the singing than he has been. He usually shakes his head, or holds my hands down so we don't have to do the motions! He even was able to put his book back without me! Baby steps! When we got home, I did make the activity that was sent home with us. Since I don't have a great magnetic whiteboard, the fridge had to do!

I cut out the birds, put contact paper on them, and then cut out the rhyme to go with it. C does a really good job of putting them up on the "board" and likes the rhyme's. So we will be making more...once I get another printer cartridge! :)

Here's a bird with feathers YELLOW
(Have child put yellow bird up...and for each color)

Now he's a happy, jolly fellow.

Here's a bird with feathers BLUE
Now he's a friend to me and you.

Here's a bird with feathers RED
Now he likes to stand on his head.

Now here's a bird with feathers GREEN
Now he's the fastest I've ever seen.

Here's a bird with feathers GRAY
Now he's gone far, far away.

This was probably my favorite activity we did this week. I knew that since it would involve food, there was a pretty good chance some of it would go into his mouth. :) I basically cooked spaghetti noodles, set them on foil (kind of a new texture for him too) and then just let him go at it. I tried to make shapes, and put the noodles in a line...but he didn't take the bait and follow. :)

That was our "N" week! We also will celebrated Caeden turning 2 on Sunday, he got some really good gifts that will definitely be incorporated into our Tot School. I will be getting a birthday post up soon!

The weather is warming up...and the humidity...so we will be outside a lot and probably get use out of his new water table! :)

Hope everyone had a good Tot School week!

I love the rhyme. We have felt board pieces for a rhyme called "This Little Chick" that incorporates color as well. Great stuff, looks like a fun week.
