Tot School (Week 11)

Caeden is currently 25 months old.

This week we had some activities that went along with our letter of the week, "Q". We stared off with working on his ABC book and did our letter "Q" craft. I also did this with him since he has really been modeling what we've been doing lately, so I thought if he saw me doing it then he would want to try. Wrong. He wasn't into this activity...at....all.

I cut some squares out of construction paper and then took a glue stick and spread glue over the letters. I then had C put some of the squares on the letters, which C is still in the fist full of squares and then just throw them on there and hope that one lands in the glue. I even tried to have him use the glue stick...nothing. So I managed, through a lot of encouragement, to at least put a few more squares on. Mission accomplished...well, sorta.
I didn't have any pictures of him actually doing this project because I was trying to help him.

Moving on...continuing with our letter "Q" I decided to do a "Quarter Drop" activity. I cut a slit on the top of a plastic lid, put it on a clear container, and then had C put quarter's in. We also worked on counting the quarters as we dropped them in. He managed to stay focused on this activity for about 20 minutes.
*I did not take my eyes off C during this activity due to the possibility of the quarter's looking tasty to him. I would recommend close supervision.*

I also gave him a matching file folder game that I got from Confessions of a Homeschooler.
Sensory activity...
On Tuesday we had our "Tot Time" at the library. This week the theme was "In The Rain". C did very well with listening and participating, without much help from me or Daddy. We sang songs about Rainbows, read a book about animals (in the rain), and made a craft. The craft was a rainbow made out of contact paper and tissue paper. Since C did not like Monday's activity...I didn't think he would really be into this again. Daddy helped him "throw" on the pieces of tissue paper. The colors are not in order...but they are there. :) I also checked out another Sneak Bag with the theme "All About Me".

We worked on sorting beads by colors using muffin tins...and then I helped C work on stringing the beads.
Another focus activity that C really has enjoyed is the shape sorter.

Music time! I got out a few of the musical toys that we have and let C make beautiful noise...I mean music!

I also got out a few awesome Quilts that were made by a family member of mine. I used the quilts as an "I spy" kind of a game. I would ask C to find certain things on the quilt. He found an elephant...Dora...Mickey...fish...etc.

C brought his Leap Frog Barn with the animals over, so we worked on matching the animals! In some of the pictures he is playing "Where is the cow...pig...etc.?" game. He hides the animal and then says, "Boo!" when he shows it. He also thought that the cow might need a little drink from his milk. :)

And of course we had some water fun outside this week! Daddy was spraying C with the hose...and C just loved it!
We also played Hide-n-Seek...

Here are some Classic Caeden moments...I couldn't choose just one favorite for the week!

Apparently C wanted Elmo to participate in the quarter drop activity. HE put Elmo on his stool, and then pulled up his own chair. At least he wasn't disappointed when Elmo just sat there. :)
Playing with the train table can work up a sweat...
I knew Monday was going to be a crazy day when he woke up looking like this...
What's the weather like C? Cloudy...

We had a pretty good Tot School week. There were times where C just did not really want to do anything...with me. I have finally decided to stop forcing him to do things with me and just randomly pull activities throughout the day and see if he is interested in doing them with me. That seemed to work better. I think he is still a little young for an hour of Tot School, so if I can be intentional with him for at least 30 minutes...I'm happy. :)

What a fun week! I love the sweat band.

We only strive for 20-30 minutes around here too. Today we got only 10. But at least she tried three new activities.

Fiona-
The sensory activity is just dried pasta in a pan...any type of noodles...and some bowls, spoons, etc. We work on scooping, pouring, dumping...etc. :) very easy activity if you have some pasta noodles around the house.
