He has slept a total of two full nights in it (it's been in his room since last Thursday)...but has not managed to take naps in it yet.
Probably due to the freedom he now has to move about in room when he pleases.
I thought that today he might stay in his bed after I basically cleared his room out of books, toys, baskets (that he's gotten into at night), and anything within his reach. So he's left with dresser, nightstand, rocking chair, and changing table (with no bins underneath since he got everything out the other day)crib and toddler bed.
I heard his little footsteps running around in his room so I decided to give him a few more minutes before I would go in there. It then got quiet and I noticed that there was no music playing. I usually leave his music on repeat during nap times so I knew he had shut it off. He had managed to climb on top of his nightstand, which is by the dresser where his radio/cd player is, and had taken his music cd out. It was laying on his bed.
My heart about jumped out of my body and I quickly set him on the floor and gave him the "that is not safe" bit. So now he is safely
I realized now that I should have hid the toddler bed downstairs until he was really ready. He wasn't even crawling out of his crib. So I'm kicking myself for rushing him to sleep in a toddler bed.
I'm not sure if I should take it out of his room or just keeping putting him in his crib if he continues to get out of his bed. Then when he really IS climbing out of his crib, we know it's time to take it down.
Anybody have some awesome tips or suggestions???

I think that I would leave the toddler bed in his room. Put him to bed in the toddler bed and if he is doing something that he shouldn't be doing then put him to bed in his crib. I would also remind him each time before nap/night time that this is the consequence of getting off of his toddler bed. Just a thought :)
Oh, the switch to the "big bed" is such a big deal at our house too!! We really wanted our kids to stay in their beds, so we trained them to do that! The most effective way was making them sleep in their crib if they did not stay in their "big bed". But, I know what you mean, it's hard to know when they (& mommy) are actually ready!

We do use the crib for the "you did not stay in your bed so you'll have to sleep in your crib" consequence. Seems to work okay...will keep at it! :)
