I started the process of breaking the Binky this past Sunday. I was getting to the point where I was tired of having to keep track of these things, and Caeden is starting to really talk, so it has become the time to wean him off of them.I thought about just throwing them in the trash and being done with it, but then I thought about how important my sanity is since I stay home with Caeden, and I really could not put up with the crying and screaming all day :)
I decided to look up articles about how to start the weaning process. Through the many articles I read, and comments from other parents in the same boat I am, I found one website that made me think this could really be that easy. We shall see by the end of the week.
The website is Bye-Bye-Binky! It has a free PDF file you can download which describes the steps you can take to help wean your child off the Binky. So far, I am on Step 4 which is cutting the tip off the Binky's. Caeden has hardly asked me for them and right after nap or when he first gets up in the morning, he usually throws them back into his bed without needing them. Even in the car, he has not asked for them.
So I guess it is working so far. I am still skeptical since it has taken him longer to fall asleep during nap, and now bedtime. As I'm typing this, he was jumping in his bed and had thrown all of his Binky's behind his crib. :) We may have a little trouble with going to sleep, but we shall see.
Tomorrow, I will cut a little bit more off and see what he does. I know he realizes that there is something different because he treats them more like a toy than anything. I wish I had taken pictures of the process, I will have to start tomorrow!
My hope is that by Friday, we will be a Binky free household.
